Career Pathways

A comprehensive program for South Ward residents aged 18-36 to gain professional skills, facilitating upward career mobility and income growth.

About

Facilitating Career Success Through Strategic Partnerships

The Career Pathways Program (CPP) provides career skills training and professional development opportunities to working-age residents in the South Ward of Newark. The goal is to provide individuals the support necessary to achieve upward career and economic mobility. With a median household income significantly below the national average, CPP seeks to disrupt the cycle of intergenerational poverty by providing participants with high-demand skills and facilitating access to employment opportunities. We focus specifically on support for low-income residents aged 18-36 with a high school diploma or GED who are not chronically unemployed. CPP collaborates with employers, training programs, and colleges to offer comprehensive support, including job placement assistance, skill training, and avenues for further education.

At the core of CPP's mission is the commitment to help residents overcome barriers to securing well-paying jobs, thereby fostering financial stability and creating economic opportunities for future generations. Guided by principles that align with the mission and values of BRICK, CPP aims to achieve a minimum placement wage of $35k/year in resilient industries while demonstrating strong outcomes for participants. The program focuses on skill training, employment opportunities, and higher education access, distinguishing itself through its robust network of training, college, and employer partners, as well as its provision of comprehensive wraparound services designed to support participant success.

Approach

Empowering Career Growth and Economic Stability

The CPP adopts a holistic approach to career development, collaborating with training partners, colleges, and employers to provide participants with the skills and opportunities needed for career growth. Our guiding principles emphasize the alignment of partner missions with BRICK values, resilience in job placement industries, and proven track records of participant success.

We create individualized service plans for participants, coordinating essential support services such as transportation, childcare, and financial assistance. These service plans ensure participants can focus on their career development and achieve significant income growth.

“The Career Pathways partnership with South Ward Promise Neighborhood was the catalyst for our growth in reach and impact, in Newark. We were able to commit to 100 students in two schools across multiple years. This commitment resulted in a meaningful partnership with schools to increase post-secondary success for high school graduates. Their investment in us allows us to invest more into the students in Newark.”
